Do you think you have a great business idea, but you want to test it out first before investing the time, energy and resources into bringing it to life? This hands-on workshop is your chance to do that. It includes lecture, video, practice and facilitated group work done in class, as well as field research and interviews conducted outside of class. This blended approach gives you much-needed feedback on your business idea from your target market and key partners to help you determine the viability of your product or service before you even start.

You will learn and apply the nine elements of the business model to develop your business, increase your skills to transform a new idea into a viable business enterprise, and present and tell your business story using your Business Model Canvas.

Part 1: Identify your business vision, objectives and goals for your business in year 1 and learn about the Business Model Canvas. Create your minimum viable product (MVP) or service for your business and conduct field research interviewing family, friends and your professional network.

Part 2: Create an outline to identify your customer segments, value proposition and customer relationship strategy. Use this to conduct field work interviewing people who are part of your target market, preferably outside your personal network.

Part 3: Identify your partners and resources needed to grow your business. Define your revenue streams and understand your cost structure. Conduct more field research by interviewing these potential partners.

Part 4: Learn to present your business model canvas and business idea so that your audience understands exactly what you do and what value you provide.

Part 5: Create a pitch deck and present it to a panel of judges, with an opportunity to receive constructive feedback from business experts to help you move your business forward.
